We are excited to announce our spring musical for the 2018-2019 school year, Singin’ in the Rain!
Adapted from the 1952 movie of the same name, the plot closely adheres to the original. Set in Hollywood in the waning days of the silent screen era, it focuses on romantic lead Don Lockwood, his sidekick Cosmo Brown, aspiring actress Kathy Selden, and Lockwood’s leading lady Lina Lamont, whose less-than-dulcet vocal tones make her an unlikely candidate for stardom in talking pictures.
According to Music Theater International:
“Singin’ in the Rain has all the makings of a Tinseltown tabloid headline – the starlet, the leading man and a love affair that could change lives and make or break careers! In silent movies, Don Lockwood and Lina Lamont are a hot item but, behind the scenes, things aren’t always as they appear on the big screen! Meanwhile, Lina’s squeaky voice might be the end of her career in ‘talking pictures’ without the help of a talented young actress to do the talking and singing for her.”
Auditions and callbacks for Singin’ in the Rain will be held January 7 and 8, 2019, with an audition workshop on January 4. Auditions will consist of singing and dancing, with some reading of lines from the script.
Audition materials will be available on www.smhstheatre.org sometime in December before winter break. Show dates are March 15-17, 2019 in the South Milwaukee Performing Arts Center.
